VIDEO: Hillary Clinton and Khizr Khan in Manchester, NH (11/6/16)

Boston Globe:
The father of a Muslim U.S. Army soldier killed in Iraq rebuked Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Sunday as an embarrassment to the United States, as a somber and reflective Hillary Clinton pledged to work for ‘‘healing and reconciliation’’ after the election.

Khizr Khan, making a campaign trail debut after coming to prominence at the Democratic National Convention, retold the story of his son Humayun Khan. The younger Khan died in 2004 when he told his men to stay back as he approached a suspicious car. He was the only American to die in the explosion.

Khan waved and raised a fist in the air before introducing Clinton, whom he praised for her experience and temperament. He told a supportive crowd that after he spoke at the convention and Trump attacked him as a Democratic shill, he and his family had received thousands of letters and messages of support.

‘‘This election will decide the future of America and the future of the world,’’ Khan said. ‘‘On one hand, we have Donald Trump and his policies of hate, exclusion, intimidation and division,’’ he said. ‘‘On the other hand, we have Hillary Rodham Clinton and her lifelong public service to the country.’’
Watch the speeches from Khan and Clinton above. Truly uplifting!

  1. Mr. Khan's speech brought me to tears. This was powerful, to say the least. Hillary has the most awesome people for surrogates and friends - a testament to her character.

  2. brings to mind Casey, who was killed in Bush's war, and his mother, Cindy Sheehan, and what she did after Bush didn't know her name:

"Sheehan has met with Bush once before, shortly after her son's death, when she was invited to a brief visit at the White House in June 2004. She says that Bush behaved as if he were at a party, walking into the room asking in a loud, bluff voice, "Who we'all honorin' today?"

She recalled: "His mouth kept moving but there was nothing in his eyes or anything else about him that showed me he really cared or had any real compassion at all. This is a human being totally disconnected from humanity and reality. His eyes were empty, hollow shells."

She remembers that Bush called her "Ma" or "Mom" throughout the whole meeting, never got around to learning her name and didn't know the name of her son. "He wouldn't look at the pictures of Casey. He didn't even know Casey's name. Every time we tried to talk about Casey and how much we missed him, he would change the subject."

Donald disrespected a fallen solider, and by doing that wounded his gold-star mother and his gold star father, and he has earned lifetime enmity.

Mr. Khan is paying his son, Humayun Khan, the respect due him from everyone in his nation, and showing us all what love looks like, how love doesn't die. Humayun Khan's father and his mother must miss him the rest of their lives, and have to know that some of their son's fellow citizens have chosen to vote against his right to citizenship and against his patriotism.

Deplorable does not say enough. Ignorance is not an excuse.
