“You could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables."
Whatever one's thoughts about who will ultimately benefit from these remarks, you've got to admit that it caused a firestorm which Hillary had to partially walk back the next day.
But hey, this was also a headline the next day:
Hillary Clinton maintains a lead over Donald Trump... according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
Clinton holds a 46 percent to 41 percent edge over Trump among likely voters, followed by Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson at 9 percent and the Green Party’s Jill Stein at 2 percent. Clinton’s lead swells to 10 percentage points among the wider swath of registered voters, 45 percent to 35 percent, similar to her 45 percent to 37 percent edge last month.
Okay, strong in the polls after Labor Day. Awesome.
Hillary Clinton has pneumonia, her doctor said Sunday, hours after the Democratic nominee stumbled and exited a 9/11 commemoration ceremony early.
The incident seems certain to prompt further scrutiny of Clinton's health and her campaign's transparency...What followed was several days off the campaign trail, some troubling poll numbers suggesting a Trump surge, the expected Democratic panic and even some insane talk of replacing her on the ticket!
But like a bolt out of the blue, Donald Trump's deplorable birtherism was again thrust into the spotlight last night, right as Hillary rebounded on the campaign trail...and today the race is again reset. Heck, he even went rogue from his teleprompter to cause another huge outcry.
Trump is rattled after a really bad day, off his teleprompter and talking assassination again. Pathetic. https://t.co/lrONax748E— Hillary HQ (@Hillary_HQ) September 16, 2016
Remember when a lot of people were panicking about the rise of Trump and collapse of Clinton? You know...yesterday? Well, this just goes to show you how quickly things can change.Robby Mook statement in response to Trump making reference to possible acts of violence against Hillary Clinton pic.twitter.com/lRQoC8EEiY— Brian Fallon (@brianefallon) September 17, 2016
There will surely be more ups and downs, good polls and bad polls, and possible changes in momentum. But as we continue toward the finish on this insane roller coaster called 2016, remember that the basic fundamentals are in Hillary's favor. Her campaign is run by incredibly smart people who know how to win. Her Democratic base is wide and deep. Her surrogates are superstars in their own rights. Her electoral advantage remains strong. And above all, our candidate never ever quits.
So hang on, fight on, and keep your chin up. At this end of this crazy ride, Hillary Clinton will be the next President of the United States.
