BREAKING: Pope Francis Isn't Feeling the Bern

Whoa. Even Pope Francis is feeling the Bern now?!
"We had an opportunity to meet with him this morning," Sanders said. "It was a real honor for me, for my wife and I to spend some time with him. I think he is one of the extraordinary figures not only in the world today but in modern world history."
Sanders said he had the chance to tell the pope that "I was incredibly appreciative of the incredible role that he is playing in this planet in discussing issues about the need for an economy based on morality, not greed."
According to the senator, he got to meet with the pope and "spend some time with him".

Except here's what actually happened...according to Pope Francis:
"This morning when I left, Sen. Sanders was there. ... He knew I was leaving at that time and I had the kindness to greet him and his wife and another couple who were with them," the pope told reporters traveling back with him to the Vatican.
"When I came down, I greeted them, shook their hands and nothing more. This is good manners. It's called good manners and not getting mixed up in politics. If anyone thinks that greeting someone means getting involved in politics, they should see a psychiatrist," the pope said.
This sounds like more of an ambush, actually...or at best, a brief fanboy moment on the ropeline.

And it also sounds like the pope isn't too amused that a certain losing presidential campaign in America is desperately trying to use him as a pawn to gain a few votes.

Sorry, Pope Francis...too late:
Bernie's "meeting" with the pope is just the latest turn in what continues to be one of the weirdest and most baffling stories of 2016.

  1. "... they should see a psychiatrist" sure does not sound like anything Pope Francis would say. Fact-check, confirmation please?

    4. The Pope was defending from allegations that his invitation (which was confirmed by the Vatican that the Pope indeed invited him and Sanders did NOT "invite himself") was "meddling in politics". I think the fact he was leaving a building at the time Bernie showed is irrelevant...it is polite to invite and meet people, as the Pope said. The spin put on this article is pathetically obvious, Bernie didn't "ambush" the Pope....the Pope is busy, Francis invited Bernie to meet him on this day. It was never going to be more than a hey how ya doing.

    5. What BULLSHIT! #1 - Bernie was INVITED - you can't just walk into the Vatican. #2 - Bernie never said he discussed any kind of politics or world events with the Pope - he said he ADMIRED the Pope's positions on those issues. Another DIRTY SMEAR from Clinton's DIRTY CAMPAIGN.

    6. but not invited by the pope. And met the pope only because he was lurking where he knew the pope would have to show up, not met with the pope.

And they don't share a moral view, if Bernie admires vows of poverty and helping the world's poor, then why are his own policies America first? Why is his signature slogan income inequality? What does he think breaking up the banks will do for the world's poor and the suffering? (Or is he secretly against a woman's right to choose? Could that be where they share a moral view?)

pooh, Bernie is just another fake, with few endorsements who has earned little respect from his own colleagues.

He's just a lazy ex-hippie slacker who lives on the public dime and hires his wife and step-daughter, and has spent no time learning anything.

Why didn't he finish college? Is the reason the same one he says would make his father amazed he's been regularly employed as a senator?

How many months out of each year from age 20 to age 35 did he live on unemployment, until he was elected to a job on the public dime?

    7. My name is Mark Magas. I don't want to hide behind unknown Google.
I am convinced Bernie is a narcissist. I think in his career before running for president there has been ample evidence. He is a paragon in all things, He votes to pander and though that is in conflict with his stated values he always has an excuse, He never says he is sorry-not for his vote deregulating derivatives, not for having protesters in his office arrested, not for mistakenly claiming Hilary said "quote unquote unqualified"", not for stating that Francis invited Bernie to the Vatican on the View, and the self promotion is obvious--so can someone write an article as to whether bernie is a Narcissist and what the dangers of a world leader who is a narcissist are or are not?

    8. we've had lots of narcissists who would rather spoil than concede another's superiority. Bernie is a narcissist whose time has come, in that there is the belief in innocence and guilt, his 'passion' is mistaken for honesty, and when he runs against a girl he can take advantage of the cultural biases. There is a reason he ran for the first time at 75, there were no experienced Democratic men running, he had to wait a long time. he's dangerous because he'd rather sink our chances and screw all the people who need government, to show he was right, she isn't electable, don't expect him to change, he'll run her down until it's over, and when she wins anyway, he'll write a book about how he was the one that would have won by a larger margin and he'll claim all her ideas were first his.

you're right Mark, he's an envious narcissist, he can't bear the idea that a girl is more qualified than he.

  3. This is just like the Kim Davis fiasco. I think it's safe to say Hillary hater and Bernie bud Jeffrey Sachs won't be getting any more invites to Vatican conferences. What gets me is, why would anyone rationally think the pope would ever play favorites in a Dem primary in the first place, infuriating million of voters?

  4. sound like the pope to me, in fact he heartily dislikes Sanders's idea that morality is related to income inequality, particularly given that most of the world's poor don't have jobs and some have only gotten jobs because of trade agreements with richer nations.

Sanders's protectionist trade policies are not moral, they're not even realistic, they would not even employ significantly more Americans.

He would have said to make it clear, he thinks anyone who believes the pope endorses Sanders needs to see a psychiatrist.

The pope isn't an American nationalist, against immigrants who may takes jobs from American citizens, against all trade agreements with nations far poorer than the the USA.

This is not morality to the pope, it's heartlessness.

    1. ....so you're referring to Bernie Sanders as an American nationalist who would be against immigrants taking jobs from Americans and against all trade agreements with nations poorer than the US? Just so we're clear....

      Delete
    2. that is his very own voting record, the reason he voted against Ted Kennedy's immigration bill, he thought that we have American teachers who can teach Spanish, and don't need to give those good jobs to non-Americans.

If it were only farm work and non-skilled labor for guest workers, and only where there are no Americans willing to do those jobs, he'd have been okay with the bill, as long as they returned home. But a teacher, that's too good a job to let someone outside the nation take.

That's Bernie's protectionism, which goes with his no trade agreements with poor nations, only ones rich enough to pay their workers an American minimum wage.

And why I can fairly say he has nothing in common with the pope regarding morality.

Why don't you read up on your own candidate, I know her voting record, you don't think you have to know his, you can lean on those of us who do their own research?

  5. You Hillbots are ridiculous. The Pope was not playing favorites and know one is trying to say that. The VATICAN COMMITTEE invited Senator Sanders to speak. It wasn't an invitation from The Pope. He HAPPENED to meet the Pope in the morning before he left for Lesbos. They spoke, and the quote you've posted is slightly "doctored," which is precisely why it says "reporters" and not to a specific news company. Even CNN (Clinton News Network) has an article that's more accurate than this, and they ALWAYS back HRC. You guys are so petty to belittle a chance, BRIEF meeting a US Senator had with the Pope. This is why no one likes you fuckin Hillary Clinton puppets. How could anyone in their right mind vote for HRC and expect any sort of real change to occur? Big money will stay in government, the Democratic Party will just move further Right, per the Establishment. As much as I love Barack Obama, he hasn't really changed anything too drastically either and HRC just plans to continue his incrementalist agenda. She's gonna try to break up the big banks under Dodd-Frank and not just bring back a modern day Glass-Steagal which would make more sense?

    1. LOL. The Sanders campaign itself is acting like the pope endorsed Sanders. And the pope's own words, which are on video, btw, make it clear he's not happy about their attempt at exploitation. That's the bottom line.

    5. Oh dear, the FACT that Sanders is losing so badly in this primary race must be getting to the Sandbaggers who idolize him.
Those poor fools are going to need some salve for that 'Bern' when they are no longer able to ignore actual reality. Hint: It's NOT Bernie reality.
The best part of all is that Hillary Clinton will easily wrap up the nomination without once resorting to the lies, smears and innuendo that Sanders and his campaign have sunk to. Sanders has nothing else but negativity.
Clinton has class, style and more importantly, actual qualifications for the job concerned.
And dear deluded Bernie trolls, all of your insults and your slurs and your impugning of Hillary Clinton's integrity and reputation on any and all comments sections across the Internet will not change one simple fact.
Bernie Sanders will not now or ever be the President of the United States.
      Deal with it.

  6. dear unknown, this is Sanders's MO, in his words the pope invited him, in his words they had a meeting, and in the pope's words, anyone who thought he'd ever want to meet with Sanders before the election and give the impression he had any interest at all in Sanders's positions needs to have their head examined. That's how he's spun lots of endorsements he didn't get, he was somewhere in a photo that happened to have Martin Luther King in it? Ergo? That's why newspapers stopped saying anything at all conciliatory when they endorse Hillary, who has met the pope, but not during an election season. Sanders can't be trusted to not claim what is not his. If that's socialism, it isn't the Eugene V Debs variety, which you might know given that she's got most all the trade union endorsements.

    2. that's all you have, an oft-repeated statement that was close to what happened, but exaggerated the danger she and then high-school age Chelsea had been in? And that she corrected with 24-hours and that Berniebots have to use use over and over because it's the only example of her 'dishonesty?'

When will that moral Bernie correct his many misstatements, let's start with his most recent exaggerations, invited by the pope? Stayed with him in the Vatican? Had a meeting meeting with the pope? They share a moral view of the world?

      pooh

Check this out for finding places where there is agreement:

" Mother Teresa’s motions were not wasted. When Hillary Clinton returned to Washington, she took up Mother Teresa’s request with a will. Keeping in contact with the saint who called her regularly to receive updates on her “center for babies,” Hillary Clinton did the necessary legwork and succeeded in opening The Mother Teresa Home for Infant Children in 1995 in an affluent section of Washington, DC. Mother Teresa joined her for the opening, and two years later passed into the arms of her Lord. But she left a bright mark on the career of Hillary Clinton, who saw something remarkable in the tiny nun, and chose to do her bidding to help save lives. Mother Teresa inspired Mrs. Clinton to do a truly good work in spite of her dedicated promotion of Planned Parenthood’s agenda for “safe and legal” abortions."

And this for Bernie finding opportunities to use sexism to preen:

      http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/17/us/politics/bernie-sanders-campaign-history.html?_r=0

"During the 1986 race for governor of Vermont, Bernie Sanders bristled at the popularity of the Democratic incumbent, Madeleine Kunin. Mr. Sanders, who was running against her as an independent, saw himself as a leader, and viewed Ms. Kunin as a lightweight.

“She does very well on television,” he told one interviewer. “She has an excellent press secretary.”

But really, he said another time, the governor’s appeal came down to one trait.

“Many people are excited because she’s the first woman governor,” he said. “But after that, there ain’t much.”"

Yep, Bernie, running down women, the best feminist of all, who has one consistency, he's ahead.

  7. No wonder media are reluctant to talk much about this incident. They desperately want Sanders to win, so that, once he's "crucified" by the republican gangsters, we'll have a republican president, who won't interfere with the plethora of ads we must endure, to watch a show on
    TV.

  8. While it is obvious that the clip has been editted, it is just as obvious that Senator Sanders had but a brief encounter with the pope and it was of insignificant value. Mr. Sanders own words are simply salutations of respect and the rest are the words of pundits and criticts that continue to outline what is left of a campaign which is only waiting to be played out until the general ... there is no new news to be heard and this continued juvenile behavior is wearing to say the least.

  11. Reality must be sinking in for the deluded Bernie Bots. Ambushing the Pope in order to fake some kind of endorsement is a sign of desperation and is truly pathetic.
Unfortunately it is not at all surprising considering the extreme narcissism and sense of entitlement from which Sanders suffers. The fool and his supporters are just beyond embarrassing.
