Thank You, Iowa!

The appropriately-named named Iowa Women of Achievement Bridge in downtown Des Moines
I'm flying back to Austin this evening (weather permitting) and I just gotta say... I. Love. Iowa.

The always-friendly people, the snowy winter weather, the wall-to-wall politics of the season, the convenient 24-hour WiFi-enabled Perkins restaurants...all of it. There was so much going on in Des Moines and the surrounding area that I didn't get to see most of the state, but I'd love to make up for that on a road trip sometime soon.

If you've been following along with me on Twitter while I've been out and about over the past few days, you've experienced some of it with me...and I'd like to share some highlights before I depart.
And here was the chaotic scene about 45 minutes later when the third-place finisher made a personal pitch... And just before I left, look who I ran into! It was a real honor to meet Joan, as I've been a fan of hers since the tough days of 2008. Fun fact: I was also happy to help her get a basement WiFi signal on her phone so she could keep up with the latest results.

But I didn't get to see who won at this particular location (Bernie I'm guessing) because I had to run to the victory party. And then this happened:
I forgot to add the obligatory political fanboy selfie to the tweet, so here it is:

And a few people have been wondering on Twitter, so let me make it clear...I'm not Jack Black!

One more thing: NPR's Tamara Keith talked to me twice at the victory party (she thought I was hilarious) and told me that I might be on Morning Edition today...and I was! Only problem? My first name isn't Chris. But that's ok, it's just one more crazy thing about this whole experience. Listen to the segment here.

Seriously, thank you Iowa...you're the best!

  1. I had no idea you weren't a woman!! I feel stupid making that assumption, but I guess I'm not used to seeing many men so passionate about her (other than my husband). This makes me adore you even more!! Keep up the amazing work - you are awesome.

    1. Thanks Stacey. Yep, me and Lysis are both dudes...and rest assured that there are a lot of us out here. I'm for her because she's clearly the best candidate and will be an awesome president. That she will be the first woman president is just a huge plus on top of that. Thanks for reading!
