Hillary Returns to Texas

Two months after delivering a highly-acclaimed speech on voting rights in Houston, Hillary Clinton is back in Texas today visiting an area that will be crucial for future Democratic presidential prospects in the state.
Making her first trip of this campaign to the Rio Grande Valley, Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton on Friday plans to put in face time with local donors and officials, including an evening fundraiser at the McAllen home of Alonzo Cantu, a construction magnate who has long been among Clinton's most generous boosters in the Valley...
Clinton has no public appearances scheduled, but campaign officials are expected to meet with local lawmakers and county officials Friday afternoon at a conference center in Edinburg.
More broadly, the trip is a part of Clinton's outreach to Latino leaders. State Reps. Terry Canales, D-Edinburg, and Eddie Lucio III, D-Harlingen, received invitations to Friday's events. Both said they would like to get Clinton's take on regional concerns such as heath care and border issues.
The Clintons' ties to South Texas have been documented before, and the area was of huge importance in Hillary's primary win against Obama in the March 2008 primary. Today's trip may simply be for fundraising and policy discussions, but us Texas Democrats really appreciate Hillary giving the state some attention. It may not always seem like it, but there are a lot of us here and we're ready to move our state forward!

And whether it's 2016, 2020 or of these days, Texas will add its huge number of electoral votes to the blue column. With a little luck, greater voter participation and an amazing candidate for president, that day might come sooner than you think.
